Ah, que pena!!
The Oreaster reticulatus stands out for its robust structure and its large and very large central disc, with a similar appearance to a pad. Because of its natural beauty has been much exploited as craft or decorative object.
On the western side of the Atlantic, is the State of North Carolina (USA) and Bermuda until the State of Santa Catarina (Brazil). Already on the eastern shore, is the archipelago of Cape Verde. It also occurs on the island of Trinidad, in the Mid-Atlantic ridge.
Classified as Endangered by ICMBio, is among the six species of star-fish endangered and integrated into the National Plan of Action for Conservation Environments Coralíneos (PAN Reef), which is being developed with the Executive Coordinator of the Living Coral.
The photo is of Anne Wegner, the CEPSUL.
