The destruction of forests can be even more harmful than we think. Study shows that emissions from deforestation of tropical forests can be up to 20% larger than the number calculated by the IPCC. This is because the forest areas that are exposed to the external environment (edges and forest remnants) suffer the impacts from the sun, wind and temperature increase resulting in the death of trees, thus losing its ability to store carbon.
