Greenpeace Índia

Hi Rose,

I have some exciting news from Dharnai. On August 4, former Chief Minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar visited Dharnai to see first-hand the change brought about by Greenpeace’s solar microgrid.

As you are aware, the village did not have any power for 30 years. Then Greenpeace India led an initiative to install a cluster-based solar microgrid and inaugurated it on July 20, 2014.

“In the meeting with Greenpeace back in May 16, 2012, I recommended them to implement the microgrid model [1] in one village of Bihar,” Nitish Kumar said. “Solar energy is the only solution and I praise and appreciate Greenpeace for accepting the challenge in successfully installing this everlasting viable solution model”.

Villagers were thrilled that the Ex-CM visited the project. Vijay Kumar from Dharnai said, "It was a very proud day for me. Nitish kumar-ji coming to Dharnai [2] to appreciate my solar village! I would have laughed if someone would have told me this a year ago."

Yogesh Yadav from Bishunpur tolla in Dharnai said, “I was in Ranchi when I got to know that Nitish Kumar is coming to see my village Dharnai. For me it is something that I will boast about. Today I truly see that Dharnai has risen again! I am proud to be from the solar village of India."

I am also proud to share with you the interactive map of Dharnai. It would give you a detailed idea of the impact of our project.

Please share and spread the excitement with your friends, colleagues and family,

Many thanks
