TINGUÁ BIOLOGICAL RESERVE

Rose, look at this new petition to preserve Tinguá Biological Reserve, as you've done campaigns related to environmental issues, we think would be interested in signing it too.
Biological Reserve Tinguá is running a serious risk. Recently the Federal Government through the Ministry of Environment and the Chico Mendes Institute, signaled the possibility of re-categorization of reserves for "national park", a fact that would cause a number of environmental and social problems for the region. What at first seems a benefit actually is not. How Biological Reserve, the Tinguá is much more protected, as National Parks are open to visitors, require more staff and suffer more degradation.
The Reserve Tinguá is unique not only for its natural beauty and rich biodiversity, but for its history. Unlike other reserves, Tinguá was created by the pressure of society and was named Natural Heritage by UNESCO. Also booking is crucial for the maintenance of water supply in Rio de Janeiro, metropolitan area and Baixada Fluminense. In water times of crisis, the preservation of their sources is key.
Being in the Baixada Fluminense, a densely populated region, the reserve would face a serious risk of degradation, garbage accumulation, risk of fire and commitment to supply water to the region. Our intention is not to stop people's access, visitations are already allowed, but in a controlled manner.
For all that we environmentalists who were there in the struggle for creation of the reserve, we require the federal government that the Tinguá keep your current status FEDERAL RESERVE BIOLOGICAL, increasing the number of forest fiscal and administrative and financial autonomy of its management.
